UPDATE: We have a winner! Scroll down to see who is the big ball winner!
I've written about my love of icy cold balls a couple of times in the past. They are a fun way to add some color to a cocktail or punchbowl, and a great gift for someone who is always having parties (and loves balls). It's probably too late to buy a set online in time for Christmas, but I've seen them at Macy's and Homegoods in the past few months.
Do you remember last Christmas, when I filled my ice molds with cranberry & mint?
And when the ice balls melt in your drink, it can be embarrassing.
Note to self: leaves and balls don't mix.
I also used them during the summer, when I filled them with blueberries. Much less of a spectacle than the mint leaves. But, a little more of a spectacle, since people were referring to them as blue balls.
Lucky for you, I bought two sets of ice ball molds to give to a freshvintage reader. Leave a comment below, and let me know what you would put in your balls. A random winner will win both sets. Be creative! The giveaway ends on Wednesday night at midnight EST.
This is the fifth and last giveaway in my Fresh Gifts for Five Weeks series that celebrates my five year anniversary of blogging, so be sure to enter today! (Especially if you like balls.)
UPDATE: Congratulations to Sunita from asaaan.com. You are the lucky ball winner! I love her idea of using the molds for a punch:
I would lemon slices and mint and throw them in my punch bowl. That would be so pretty in my frescha-white wine and lemon juice punch!

So ... I really had to give this some thought. Immediately, I thought it would be fun to put little charms or trinkets in the "balls" ... but knowing my Irish family, people would choke and we'd end up in the ER (not fun) ... so, I've decided that I would put colorful jujji fruits or gummy bears in my "balls". At least they would eventually disolve ...

I would axe the h2o and fill them with pickle juice and olives to have in a bloodymary!

I would put anything in my balls that would fit. Nothing too big like a whole watermelon. I don;t want to damage my balls.

I would put a whole bunch of lemon slices, lemon juice and simple syrup in mine. Then I'd pour Crown Royal Whiskey over it to make the easiest Whiskey Sour evah!!

Oh how fun! Not very original, but fresh fruit sounds perfect to me.

Ok, you got me with this one. I think you should call them Schweddy balls and fill them with Schwepps Ginger Ale, then put them into a glass full of rum.
Yeah, I'm pushing it. I really just wanted to say schweddy balls.

Classy!
My balls would be filled with tomato juice for bloody marys or maybe pureed fruit like watermelon or pineapple for summery adult beverages.
Gina - wouldn't that make them Schweppy balls?

Oh how fun! I'd fill my balls with a little mint, lime slices and tequila! YUM!!
Thanks!!

Yum! I would put in lemon juice, lime juice, and some sparkling soda and add the balls to wine to make sangria.
This whole thing reminds me of molly shannon and ana gasteyer doing their radio cooking show on SNL and talking about their holiday balls. I hope someone remembers that skit. anyway, awesome giveaway! Thank you.

Alright, so I'm not normally a big ball fan (yup, said that out load) but I'd fill them with strawberry and lime and perhaps a bit of my alcohol of choice and try to make my own limeade. Mmmm...

Am I the only one who prefers her balls in their natural state?

I like orange (juice) balls. Add the champagne, and you have bubbly balls for breakfast! (Yes, a little alliteration!)

coffee - for iced coffee
lemon - for water or vodka tonics
lime - for gin and tonic
strawberries for 7up
cranberries & lime - for a holiday drink
glitter - for a festive New Years cocktail
Oh the possibilities are endless! Thanks for the opportunity...

I would fill them with juices and fruit pieces. I like juice rather that water so my beverage won't get diluted. (blueberry, peach, strawberry, orange, lemon, lime, pineapple, mango, etc.)

Peach nectar to add to anything bubbly, though the cranberries scream HOLIDAYS!
Posted by: Kate | December 20, 2011 at 08:21 PM
I would fill them with white grape peach juice and add them to white wine. Makes me thirsty now at 9 am.

I really like your idea of the mint especially in the summer! I also would try slices of lemon.
