Delayed Gratification
I bought and photographed this $25 worth of junk in MAY, but I haven't had a chance to share it with you. Why did I wait so long? Well, it was a combination of things:
- I thought the junk I bought after this junk was better, so I kept writing about the newer junk instead.
- My in-laws came to visit in May. They are unbelievably high maintenance, so I didn't have time to post this stuff while they were here. I could barely go to the bathroom by myself with them here.
- Sheer laziness.
- I couldn't think of anything funny to write about this stuff. And I'm all about the funny.
Anyway, here's the unfunny post about my May junk...
The white metal step stool has a permanent home in a corner of my kitchen. Can you see the small copper pan on the middle step? It's already been surrendered to my copper-lovin' neighbor.
Here's a small pitcher with brown glaze. It is marked USA on the bottom. Does this look familiar to anyone? I'm trying to figure out the maker.
Look at these teeny-tiny bird clips, called Multiclips. They were made in Germany. I'm assuming that there were originally a few more bird clips in the package, but I only ended up with two.
The wooden box is from the Chocolate Shop in Los Angeles. There is a picture of a Dutch girl on the top of the lid, and on the inside.
You know that I always fall for vintage office stuff:
Okay...a quiz! Does anyone know what type of spoons these are? I think I already know the answers, but I'd like to hear your guesses. In case you can't tell from the photo, the center spoon curves up one side.
P.S. I am completely and totally kidding about my in-laws. They are the best in-laws I've ever had. And the best part is that they know I am just kidding, so I am only putting this note here for my readers' sake. And a little bit so that my in-laws don't take us out of their will.

The middle one looks like you need it to break through something, like a hard boiled egg or jello??

Ooooh, great stuff! I love the wooden box, and the mini clips gave me an idea. I bought some teeny tiny clothespins last Saturday, maybe I'll try glueing on some vintage buttons...

For tomato slices, for jellies and for berries.
(oh my goodness - did I just de-lurk because I wanted to flaunt my spoon knowledge?! eeep!)

My mom has a bunch of old spoons with one side curled up. We found them while cleaning out my great-uncle's farmhouse. He said those spoons have been around since he was a youngster (he's 90 now!), and they were used to stir stuff on the stove. The same spoons were used so much that the stirring of hot liquids and foods caused them to curl!

On the pitcher, did you consider McCoy. I think it's common for them to only have USA on the bottom. I know the far right spoon is a sugar spoon, the middle a jelly spoon, and the left I'm thinking a bon bon server. Oh, and I love love love the wooden box!

yes, i have seen the pitcher it is a monmouth usa brown swirl pitcher for juice/milk. there is one on ebay right now and believe the starting bid is 20.00. great find...it is gorgeous. it does look like a mc coy, but would have the mc coy name, if it was real.
you find the best stuff!

The spoons: I am only guessing, but I think from L-R, they are: tea spoon, grapefruit spoon, sugar spoon. Love that first one.
Had a real giggle at you last post with the "Danger! Knives!" photo.
I only have one question - what do you DO with all this stuff? I know you give away and ebay some of it... but seriously - what does your house look like?

Well, I'm kind of digging your May junk. The white stool, the wooden box, the bird clips, the fan, the suitcase! Looks like some pretty great junk to me!

I have a spoon just like the first one and I can't wait till you fill us all in on it's proper usage!

I think the spoon on the left is a berry spoon - spoons the berries out of a bowl and leaves the juices. I'd love to know for sure as I have one nearly identical.

I'm pretty sure the spoon on the right is sugar spoon. Looks justlike one in my grandma's collection. Great finds!

The middle spoon is called a "slice", it's used to serve fish.

Ooh! Great spoons! From L to R (according to my Mom, silver aficionado): nut spoon (if it's curved on the edges, if it's flat and a bit larger it's a tomato server), jelly spoon (or for aspic, a nasty jello-type stuff), and a sugar shell. I have a jelly soon and sugar shell in my pattern (Francis I) and the shape is identical. That's what happens when you pick your silver pattern when you're 13!

Hi there, I really like your blog! Just found you....somehow?
About the spoons: the left one, if flat and the size of a tomato slice, is a tomato slice server. (!)
However, the one on the far right looks like an individual ice cream server, but if the aforementioned tomato-slice-server is around 3" across, well, that'd make the ice cream spoon really huge. (maybe a serving spoon for serving Ice Cream? Or a "trifle server". LOL I just made that up on the spot.)
The middle one, keeping with the size-theme, may be a "entree server" which I have read in descriptions on more than one ebay sale. I think they just named it that, so people would say, "Hey I don't have an 'entree server'...I really NEED that!"
Anyway, your May finds are fabulous!
And about the "what does your house look like?" question...I second that emotion.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about the most-recently acquired stuff being the best! I purchase things to sell and then fall in love with them and won't let them go!!

I know next-to-nothing about pottery, but my Aunt gave me some serving pieces and a vase by Hull and all they say on the bottom is USA in caps.
