Bingo!
I got lucky this week. I found a few things at thrift stores and I hit a great estate sale. The ladies running the sale were a hoot. They were having way too much fun. I wanted to chug a beer with them.
Here is $47 worth of finds from the past week...
A gray chippy bench, white planters, and Alcoa aluminum cooler:
There was only one happy tomato glass to match the happy tomato pitcher. I'm on the lookout for a whole set, so if anyone finds any glasses, please let me know!
My favorite find of the day? An old Bingo game with 75 cards. Last week, I just happened to visit The Cottage Girls' blog with photos of their sale at the Big Flea. I went to an estate sale this weekend in Delaware and lo and behold...a big box of old heavy-duty bingo cards with greyhounds on them! Not the same cards as The Cottage gals, but adorable nonetheless. I didn't find them until my second sweep of the house. It always pays to make a second sweep!
Floral frogs and bingo gamespieces...
I bought these two Better Homes & Gardens books at the estate sale. The Decorating Book is from 1956 and looks like no one ever cracked it open.

And then there is the Handyman Book. God, he is sooo hot. Just look at that goiter (muscle, I mean) on his arm. And his babe in pink is just swoooooning over him. I love a man who smokes a pipe while using a manual drill with his eyes closed. HOT!

They're a nice set of bingo cards. I see you have the wooden counters there as well - did the set come with a rolling cage for the numbers, or is it simply a case of pulling the numbers out of a bag?
Just wondering as well if you ever see vintage Bingo Blowers - the machines that spit out the numbers on a waft of air? They don't use them here in the UK any more, but I believe a lot of US halls still use them as standard.
We have different bingo tickets here in the UK, but they're so plain I can't really see there being much of a collectors market for them.

Great finds! I want that BHG decorating book, I found a 1961 one a couple weeks ago but now I am on a mission to own all the editions... Isn't that how it always goes? lol

You find the best stuff! I bought that same Handyman Book for $2 a few months ago - simply because the cover image cracked me up....but not nearly as much as your description of it.

I've been lucky enough to come across three copies of that BHG Decorating book. (I LOVE the illustrations in it.) There's no way I can pass it up when I see one :)

I just discovered your blog, and I must say, those bingo cards are amazing! As an ephemera lover and a greyhound owner, I don't think it gets any better than that combination.

I found the same decorating book at the thrift store about 2 weeks ago! I almost didn't buy it 'cuz I was thinking I didn't need another home book & it was $4 when I brought it to the counter (I only had so much cash). Well, of course I kept thinking about it all night & so went back the next morning searching for it. Finally found it & now it was $10! I took it back to the counter & asked the same lady & she said they told her to mark it up 'cuz it was an antique. She did give it to me for $4.
I also found a Bingo game at a yard sale - everything was $1. I was on my way home with my youngest from a birthday party & had no intention of stopping since I had the worst headache. My kid wanted to stop! I'm so glad I did 'cuz I found a perfectly good boardgame called, Shenanagins. That was one of my fave t.v. game shows for kids in the 60s. Then the lady pointed out the Bingo game so I snatched that up (wooden pieces & all, but the cards not as decorative)...I was really surprised these things were still there since it was already the afternoon.

Hey there! Lots of people have told me that our blogs have the same vintage vibe. It must be true because we buy the SAME THINGS! I have 2 of the same picnic tins (along with several other "faux bois" types). I just bought a vintage baby book this weekend too. What fun it is to find something, clean it up and post about it. Finally...vindication for my collecting habit! Happy Hunting. Vicki

Wonderful finds! I especially love those flower frogs!!
I have no clue how to use the metal ones, only the lidded kind, but I would be a proud owner none the less.
