Colleen's Boardwalk Memories & Erin's Finds

Next week is my birthday and the week after next is my husband's. We celebrated by spending Saturday night in Atlantic City. I showed him all of my old haunts...the Claridge casino where I worked one summer, the street corner where I got maced by a pair of hookers, and the spot on the boardwalk where armless and legless Celestine played songs on a Casio keyboard with her tongue while laying on a gurney. She survived 42 years with a debilitating condition that essentially left her a quadriplegic, she had four children, made a decent living entertaining tourists with her tongue (hehe) and then, sadly, was hit by two cars while riding her electric gurney down the middle of the street.  I can't make this shit up, folks.

Anyhoo...Erin had a much more productive weekend than I did. She bought lots and lots of cute things...

A wooden stool, aqua metal cake carrier, loaf tins, a small green fan, old pie tin, spools, wooden bowl and a brass candlestick...

the white wooden box on casters with the decals is my favorite find. The red metal chair on top of the box is a Jack-n-Jill Kiddie chair (just like this one).

She also found two potato chip tins, another picnic basket (a perennial favorite of ours), a few children's books and a pair of child-sized red chairs.

Did anyone see the latest issue (Dec/Jan) of Country Home? On page 74, The JunkMarket gals, Sue & Ki, create a coat rack out of a pair of old skis. Erin is all set for that project!

good ole Celestine... wasn't she on Oprah, too? My Coca Cola Zero nearly sprayed from my nose with the mention of that gal.... apparently I wan't prepared for that memory.

I also saw 2 skis used as frame holders when parallel. Hooks were screwed in and 3 or 4 b & w pictures were displayed on the skis.

i remember Celestine on the boardwalk...oooh the poor thing. people won't even stop for a biped let alone a gurney...what does that say about us as a society...well, enough about that-happy birthday to you and Chris

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the aqua cake carrier!! Is it for sale??

I was going to comment on the cake carrier too. Fabulous! I'm getting close to owning my 20th picnic basket. Must. Stop. Now.

Ok, how do I get my paws on that cake tin? Seriously, I MUST have it!

Ok, crap, seems like I'd have to fight some people for it...

drooling over the aqua cake carrier!!

Love the box and Connie would fight you for that fan.
Have a wondeful Thanksgiving, and Happy Birthday to you both.

Those were some good finds! I have a little Jack and Jill chair, but mine doesn't have the seat. I've been trying to figure out what to do with for several years now. There must be some really neat, creative thing I could do.

Ohmygosh, I remember Celestine!
We used to hang at the Playboy casino -- we'd take the Friday night bus down (and get 10.00 back in tokens, plus a free food voucher) and scope out the good looking guys! lol Those were the days. I didn't know Celestine had died, that's sad.
Is that a Charles Chip (pretzel?) tin? My grandmom used to get those delivered weekly -- ahhh, memories.

I would love to go shopping with you and Erin - you get some amazing finds. Hope you and hubby have lovely birthdays.

Dang, that poor woman, Celestine, had it rough. What kinda ending was that for her to get hit by cars...geez, the universe is odd. Hope she is living the high life in heaven.

Some great finds there...never saw a cake carrier like that awesome one. I have a cherries one from the 50s that I adore (even 'tho I don't bake cakes & carry them anywhere).

That is one crazy story!
Happy Birthday to you and your husband.
Love all of Erin's finds!

Oh pooooor Celestine! I don't know whether to laugh or cry??? Loving the cake carrier!!

Happy Birthday Colleen & Chris. Hope your b'days are great. See you later alligator!

hope you have a wonderful birthday!!
and that ski idea...love!

Love the skis, I'm still waiting for my issue to arrive, but I took a peak at their projects at the book store.
