Wh-wh-what the ?

Here's one of my purchases from Renninger's: a small Watt pumpkin-colored bowl in the Loops pattern.

Little_bowl

It will join the other two that I keep on my kitchen counter. My mother-in-law bought the middle bowl for me while I was on my first trip to Yakima, WA. I found the one on the right at a yard sale. It is a covered dish that should have a lid. I didn't know that when I bought it for $5. I saw it a few weeks later at an antiques store for $75 with the lid. I plan to use them as a centerpiece on my kitchen table - I'll pile them high with little white pumpkins and those crazy warty gourds.

Bowls

I also recently purchased a few boxes of flashcards (not from Renninger's). I just love the images on the picture cards.

Flashcards

The big box on the bottom is filled with phonics flashcards. They have a letter on one side:

Cards_2

And a sound on the other:

Snake

As I leafed through the stack of cards, they started getting a little bizarre...

Fishbones

Did people really feed their cats whole fish in the 1950's? The fish is lovingly placed on a plate, so I guess that means his owner served it to him without even thinking that the bones would make him cough.

And, it's the fifties, so there's a dash of political incorrectness thrown in for good measure...

Indian

And, well, I don't even know where to start with this one...

Deaf

WTF? Deaf lady? Couldn't they have just used a picture of an elephant and "E-e-e-elephant"?

When I read things like WTF? Deaf Lady? I love your blog with a burning passion!

Those cards are great. How fun what most have seemed to make such sense then makes us go HUH? and scratch are head now.

The bowls are terrific as well. And you got the first one not far from my neck of the woods.

Did I read that right?...my belly hurts from laughing... I DON'T get it!?!

Oh my gosh that is hysterical!!! Especially the deaf lady! Are you going to sell those?!

I love those cards! Especially the deaf lady. Maybe that was the 50's way of being 'inclusive'!

LOVE those cards - so funny! Those bowls are fabulous!

Love your blog.

Oh my goodness - the political incorrectness cards - I laughed out loud!! Great finds!

Those are great, not too PC back in the 50's were were. E-E-E I didn't quite get that. LOL

I distinctly remember that c-c-c- sound coming from Frosty, our cat, moments before he bit the big one.
Fortunately, he was 17 years old and it was his time. God rest his flea ridden soul.

Those flashcards are too funny!

Love the bowl, and the cards are really funny!

Ooo! I love the Loopy Watt bowls! I think I have one -- must find and put little pumpkins within. Fun finding your blog today, via a Peter Heater reference! You're on my fav list now, missy, so I'll be back.

Bwahahahaha...'fish bones make the cat cough'...how funny are those flash cards? Darn, I was at a yard sale not long ago & the former teacher was trying to interest me in her box of cards...makes me wonder if there were any of those in there?!

No Child Left Behind strategic planners take note. These flashcards would ensure adequate yearly progress...

oh my gosh those made me laugh out loud!...thanks for that:)

My friend Bonnie and I so enjoyed our time in your booth at Kutztown....what a hoot you and your sisters are....we should have taken you up on your offer of a 'drink' but best that we didn't....hope to see you there next year and I think my son (who is a handsome Navy Commander) will enjoy his blender....the retro style is right up his alley...stay well...doris

Thank you for cracking me up with those flash cards! I love reading your blog. You have a great way of writing that lets the humor come through. I enjoy visiting whenever I can.

OH MY HECK! Those phonics cards seriously made me lmao! Hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.

I have a bowl just like that one. It is a large one and was my great aunt Ethel's. You are one lucky gal to have several!! I love it and it is so right for FALL!!!

Ha! Love the cards!

GREAT blog. I will check in often. Agreed on the phonics cards, lol, lol!
