Wh-wh-what the ?
Here's one of my purchases from Renninger's: a small Watt pumpkin-colored bowl in the Loops pattern.
It will join the other two that I keep on my kitchen counter. My mother-in-law bought the middle bowl for me while I was on my first trip to Yakima, WA. I found the one on the right at a yard sale. It is a covered dish that should have a lid. I didn't know that when I bought it for $5. I saw it a few weeks later at an antiques store for $75 with the lid. I plan to use them as a centerpiece on my kitchen table - I'll pile them high with little white pumpkins and those crazy warty gourds.
I also recently purchased a few boxes of flashcards (not from Renninger's). I just love the images on the picture cards.
The big box on the bottom is filled with phonics flashcards. They have a letter on one side:
And a sound on the other:
As I leafed through the stack of cards, they started getting a little bizarre...
Did people really feed their cats whole fish in the 1950's? The fish is lovingly placed on a plate, so I guess that means his owner served it to him without even thinking that the bones would make him cough.
And, it's the fifties, so there's a dash of political incorrectness thrown in for good measure...
And, well, I don't even know where to start with this one...
WTF? Deaf lady? Couldn't they have just used a picture of an elephant and "E-e-e-elephant"?

When I read things like WTF? Deaf Lady? I love your blog with a burning passion!

Those cards are great. How fun what most have seemed to make such sense then makes us go HUH? and scratch are head now.
The bowls are terrific as well. And you got the first one not far from my neck of the woods.

I distinctly remember that c-c-c- sound coming from Frosty, our cat, moments before he bit the big one.
Fortunately, he was 17 years old and it was his time. God rest his flea ridden soul.

Ooo! I love the Loopy Watt bowls! I think I have one -- must find and put little pumpkins within. Fun finding your blog today, via a Peter Heater reference! You're on my fav list now, missy, so I'll be back.
