Spooners & Souvenirs
Here are a few of this week's finds...
Lusterware pitcher with picture of a thatched-roof cottage, round platter with gold trim & floral center, and two Pyrex mugs with green flowers. Some annoying person actually used the lamb planter to hold a plant. I thought these things were just for show. It's legs are filled with dirt and smelly roots.
Four glass jars...
And a few linens, including a pillow cover embroidered with a pair of fancy artsy people and four napkins embroidered with different pieces of china. I just learned about spooners last week in my antiques class, and there's one on the napkin. Every time I say "spooner", it makes me think of something other than dinnerware. Something dirty. But I digress...
I normally don't buy little brass souvenir thingies. They are kind of cheesy. But I was drawn to the space needle statue because I met my husband, Chris, when I visited friends in Seattle (Chris grew up in Yakima, WA with my friend's husband). The first gift I ever gave him was a squished penny that I made at the top of the space needle (from those machines that charge you fifty cents to run the penny through a machine and add a message to it). My penny was embossed with "I love you". This was two days after I met him. Don't worry, I wasn't actually in love with him at that time - the penny was a joke. But I guess he thought I was serious, because he moved to Pennsylvania six weeks later.
I was attracted to the Eiffel Tower statues because my mom has one that she got when she and my father visited Paris when I was a little girl. The statues remind me of all of the times my parents went to some faraway land and left us behind with some weirdo babysitters. Now really...what normal person would want to babysit five kids for ten days? My parents' sisters and brothers all had their own big families. So we were stuck with neighbors or strangers that my mom would find through a babysitting service. We weren't usually very nice to these people. Sometimes, they had their own kids that they brought with them. The Burke kids didn't take well to strange children in the house. My sister, Erin, fed one of the kids a handful of Pounce cat treats. I don't think her mom ever came back to babysit.

I'm always so jealous of your thrifting finds! You must have some fabulous shops where you live!
Drop by my blog sometime!

Yo, was I "found" through a baby- sitting service? And, was it one of my children that was fed catfood by reds? I think NOT!

I apologize to my dear Aunt "Petuniarose" who did babysit us when my parents when on vacation. I do not classify her as one of those weirdo babysitters. In fact, we liked her the best because she put chablis in our sippy cups.
