Schadenfreude
There is a really cute antique shop in an old historic barn a few miles from my work that is having a going-out-of-business sale. I'm a little bit happy about this (hence the title of this post). I know...I'm evil. But I bought things there even when everything was full price, so I shouldn't feel too bad. I spent about $200 on the items listed below. The stuff wasn't dirt cheap, but it was still a bargain. I was particularly excited about the enamel-top table. The base was recently painted white, but it's top is in pretty good condition and it has the original casters. AND, there is a paper tag underneath the drawer that says Strawbridge and Clothier, Philadelphia, PA.
The yard long photo is of the Lansdowne High School Class of 1932 in front of Mount Vernon. I'll probably hang the white shelf in Maeve's room to display this pink planter (Haeger) and the other two I bought last week.
What is this, you ask? I don't know. I was just going to ask you that question. I'm assuming it goes next to the sink. Is it for sponges? It has a little groove in the center divider. I have no use for this (especially since I don't know what it is). Sometimes I just don't know what I am thinking.
This old glass-door cabinet was probably the best bargain of the lot. Only $30. It is over 3 feet long and 20" high. It was repainted white and has a little bit of red peeking through. I might put it in my laundry room, along with the drying rack that you can see in the first picture.
I couldn't pass up this Marx tin dollhouse from the sixties. I'd never seen a ranch-style dollhouse.
Finn peeping into the little boy's room:

I had a dollhouse like that as a kid. My grandparents bought it at the auction. I suppose my love of junking is at least genetic then!

Colleen, I love that doll house---and you of all people know how much I LOVE them. Are you going to keep it or put it up for sale? If Maeve has any of my DNA, then she probably would love to keep it. It would be fun to fill it with furniture. OOOOHHHH BOY, I think I'm drooling, better say bye, bye. Love, Mom

New reader here. I enjoyed reading about your thrifty finds. I am so jealous of folks that have cool thrift stores and antiques shops in their areas!! Your sister's memories from the above post are fun too!

the kitchen sink is a novelty ashtray from the '60's. the ridge in the middle holds your cigarette. it was probably made by the same company that made the toilet ashtray that said, "park your butt here." HAHA!
